Congenital Chikungunya

Baby of Sanjida, 7 days old out born baby boy admitted in NICU of Asgar Ali Hospital as a case of prematurity (33wks) LBW (2.0kg) and to rule out sepsis (respiratory distress, apnoea) under Prof. Dr. Zabrul SM Haque, Consultant – Paediatrics, Neonatology, PICU & NICU. Mother had history of Chikungunya 7 days prior to delivery. Baby was dyspnoic, oedematous, hypertonic with poor reflexes. His routine investigation revealed thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, electrolyte imbalance with IgM & PCR positive for Chikungunya. For this critical condition baby is now on ventilator care and receiving treatment as per protocol.

 

Neonatal Chikungunya with Neonatal sepsis

Baby of Mahbuba, 31 days old out born baby boy admitted in NICU of Asgar Ali Hospital as a case of prematurity (36wks) AGA (2.7kg) and to  rule out  sepsis (fever 104F, rash) under Prof. Dr. Zabrul SM Haque, Consultant – Paediatrics, Neonatology, PICU & NICU. Mother had no history of fever or any other illness prior to delivery. Baby was febrile, edematous, with poor reflexes and desquamating rash all over the body. His routine investigations revealed thrombocytopenia with Chikungunya IgM positive. For this critical condition baby is receiving treatment as per protocol.
