Senior Consultant – Nephrology

• Professor Dr. Md. Babrul Alam obtained his MBBS degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital (SSMCMH).
• He subsequently completed his MD in Nephrology from Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH).
• He holds prestigious fellowships, including Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh, UK), Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN), and Fellow of the International Society of Nephrology (FISN). 
• Professor Alam also received advanced training in Transplant Nephrology from Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, India.
• With over 20 years of professional experience, Professor Alam has served in various key roles at the National Institute of Kidney Disease and Urology (NIKDU), including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, and Director. 
• He has chaired several important hospital committees such as the Dialysis Monitoring Committee, GN Clinic, Renal Biopsy Committee, Disciplinary Committee, and Academic Council. He also served as an examiner and academic council member for postgraduate nephrology programs at BSMMU. He has actively trained, mentored, and evaluated postgraduate students, renal nurses, and clinical researchers.
• His areas of expertise include Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) & Haemodialysis, Kidney Transplantation, Glomerulonephritis, Metabolic Bone Disease in CKD etc.
• He is affiliated with several professional organizations, including being an Executive Member of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Former Secretary General of the Bangladesh Renal Association (BRA), and a member of global nephrology societies such as ISN, ASN, ERA-EDTA, and ISPD. He has led community-based kidney health campaigns and initiated free dialysis programs for freedom fighters and underprivileged patients.
• Dr. Alam has numerous research publications in renowned national and international journals. He has also presented scientific papers at leading global conferences such as ASN Kidney Week, ERA-EDTA Congress, WCN, ISPD, and APSN.
• He has served as a principal and co-investigator in several projects funded by the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC). His published work spans topics like CKD, dialysis, renal biomarkers, obstructive nephropathy, and transplant outcomes.
• Prior to joining Asgar Ali Hospital, he served as Director and Professor of Nephrology at the National Institute of Kidney Disease and Urology (NIKDU), Sher E Bangla Nagar. Dhaka.
• Professor Dr. Md. Babrul Alam is currently serving patients as a Senior Consultant – Nephrology at Asgar Ali Hospital.
